Team of the Week 9/28-10/4

It was great to see so many of our teams, players, and families back out at Marino's living life again. What a fantastic weekend for our teams that was filled with A TON of goals! Congratulations to all of our standout performers which includes 5 players who registered hat-tricks and 2 with 4 goals in a single game! Incredible!

Kendall Robertson (03/02G) - A full extension, finger tip save off a quick reaction to a scramble in the box to preserve the clean sheet in her team's State Cup game earns Kendall team of the week honors. Her leadership, poise, and decision-making helped to control the rhythm of both her team's matches as well.

Anthony Wetzel (08B) - Anthony put in a fantastic performance at center back in his team's first game back. He showed great spacing, composure, 1v1 outplaying ability, and decision making in the build-out phase which allowed his team to constantly break the opponent's pressure and get out into attacking transition moments with tons of space which led to many of the team's goals.

Taylor Hoppe (08G) - Taylor put in a very strong performance in the back-line of her team's 1-1 draw. She was instrumental in preventing many dangerous goal scoring opportunities for the opponent.

Ryann Locke-Overweg (03/02G) - Ryann was back to her marauding forward best dominating the right side of the field in her team's two matches this weekend. Her understanding of the outside back/winger relationship in the wide channel with her desire to run forward allows her to get continuously in-behind opposing team's back line as an outside back!

Avery Jones (2011G) -continuou Avery scored 4 goals in her first game of her season with her ability to take shots outside the box and to take players on 1v1 using her athleticism. She was also a key defender in her second game, creating several chances with long passes out of the back.

Khiya Hunt ( 03/02G) - Khiya put in a fantastic performance in her team's State Cup match scoring 2 goals off of great finishes in the box. On top of her two goals, her excellent pressing in the opponent's build-out and re-pressing in her team's defensive transition phase dominated the midfield and meant her team was able to mount wave after wave of attacking moves.

Wyatt Bell (2010B) - In his team's two victories this weekend, we lost track of how many goals Wyatt scored. Penalties, free kicks, tap ins, solo efforts around the box - you name the way, Wyatt probably did it this weekend. More importantly, Wyatt is always dangerous as he loves to take players on using different deceptive actions and his movement off the ball is rapidly improving.

Samantha Schroeder (09G) - Samantha did a great job of exploiting the width and taking players on 1v1 to create a lot of chances for players running into the box. Most importantly she played with a competitive mentality, doing her defensive work as a winger, wanting the ball, and finding ways to take lots of shots.

Madalyn Freitas (03/02G) - Madalyn really turned it on for our 03/02G in their first State Cup match helping the team win 6-0 by scoring a hat-trick and looking dangerous throughout. Won two penalties before finishing both and a fantastic finish for her other goal of the game - she let the ball run across her body with her back to goal on top of the box, with a defender on her back, to let the ball roll across her body before turning to wrap the ball around the keeper with her dominant foot.

Kylie Trevino (07/06G) - Kylie scored an incredible 4 goals in the first 25 minutes of our 07/06 girls' first game back. She was really able to showcase her much improved finishing ability since last fall as many of these goals capped off some fantastic team moves that required excellent movment from Kylie to get in-behind or to get on the end of a cross into the box.

Eli Hawley (08B) - In a game he was dedicating to his brother, Eli led the line very well while earning himself a hat-trick that included a left-footted full volley en route to his team's 7-1 win in their first official 11v11 game. His energy and movement off the ball, combined with his dynamic ability, made him a handful to deal with.
