Team of the Week 10/5-10/11

This was a weekend to remember for our club as our 03/02G have become the first team in the history of club soccer in Jackson to advance to the State Cup Final! Many of our other teams turned in great performances as well! Congratulations to all of our stand out players from this past weekend of matches!

Carley Gilbert (09G) - Carley was exceptional coming off her line to protect the space in behind her team's back line preventing countless breakaways. She was also fantastic in the build out phase providing an outlet to help her team break pressure.

Madison Wagner (03/02G) - With a key player of her team's back line out serving a red card suspension, Maddie, already filling in at center back, took even more responsibility on her shoulders by leading her team to the State Cup Final. She made key tackle after key tackle and interception after interception to prevent a very talented opponent from running away with the game.

Kenna Hunt (09B) - Put in a great performance at Center Back for the 09B. She showed great understanding in her reading of the game as well as a lot of courage to 'step-in' to the midfield with the ball in the build-out.

Chase Wyers (2010B) - Chase was a rock in his team's two Director's Academy games this weekend. Chase was fantastic in the build-out phase by breaking the first line of pressure on the dribble before stepping into the midfield with the ball to create 2v1's which continuously resulted in attacking transition opportunities for his team. This included playing a 30 yard through ball to a striker to put him on a breakaway which was cooly finished.

Leo "Leo Messi" Ross (2010B) - Leo was a new man in the second of his team's two games this weekend. He began 1v1 'outplaying' his opponent's to buy time to find a pass over and over again. This featured some very deceptive Messi-like body feints that sent his opponent's the opposite way.

Andrea Kowalski (03/02G) - With the game tied 2-2 in stoppage time and needing a goal to advance, Andrea calmly deposited a penalty kick sending her team to the State Cup Finals. Ice in her veins.

Khiya Hunt (03/02G) - Khiya was everywhere in the midfield in the State Cup Semi-final constantly recovering possession for her team. After a rocky start, she played a key part in the second half comeback.

Jessica Emmert (03/02G) - Jess produced magic when her team needed her most to spark an amazing 3-2 comeback to send her team to the State Cup Final. She dribbled 4 or 5 players before winning a free kick on the right side of the box before playing a perfect ball that was headed in for her team's first goal and then scored her team's second goal of the game. With seconds remaining in stoppage time, Jess played an amazing final ball sending Emma Smieska on a breakaway which led to a penalty kick.

Emma Smieska (03/02G) - Unsung hero! Emma was brilliant in the second half to send her team to the State Cup Final and went on two unbelievable runs to win her team the game. On the first, she dribbled several defenders walking the ball along the endline before cutting the ball back to Jessica Emmert for a simple tap in to go up 2-1. Then, with the score tied 2-2 and all hope seemingly lost in the dying seconds, makes an incredible run in-behind before dribbling the goalkeeper and being taken out to earn her team the game-winning penalty kick.

Tristin Johnson (2011G) - Tristin had an incredible weekend of soccer! She played and scored goals with 3 different teams in 3 different matches! She scored for her own u10 girls team, then she scored for the u10 boys team, and then finally in the u12 girls team's game playing two years up! Unbelievable!

Luke Bergkoetter (07/06B) - Luke put in a fantastic performance this weekend in the 07/06B first win of the season. Luke got himself on the score sheet before doing a job in the back to help hold onto a clean sheet.
